At St John’s Tamworth we provide church services and pastoral ministry in hope that people will be encouraged and equipped to abide in Christ Jesus as Saviour and Lord throughout their lives.

Church Services
At St John’s Tamworth we regularly meet to:
a. devote ourselves to regular reading and prayer;
b. hear expository preaching from God’s Word;
c. receive the sacrament of Holy Communion;
d. worship the Father in spirit and in truth;
e. encourage each other over morning tea.
Sunday 8:30am
— Traditional —
Our congregation which meets on Sundays at 8:30am worships with a sung Anglican Prayer Book Service that combines the Holy Communion rites of both the APBA Second Order and the BCP 2019 Renewed Ancient Text. This service includes an opportunity to sing hymns with accompaniment by our pipe organ and choir.
Sunday 10:30am
— Contemporary —
Our congregation which meets on Sundays at 10:30am worships with a said Anglican Prayer Book Service that combines the Holy Communion rites of both the APBA Third Order and the BCP 2019 Renewed Ancient Text. This service includes an opportunity to sing both contemporary songs and modernised hymns typically accompanied by an upright piano and acoustic guitar.
5th Sunday 9:30am
— Combined —
Our congregations combine for the 5th Sunday within a month to worship together. This services includes an opportunity to sing praises to the Lord alongside both traditional and contemporary accompaniment.
Wednesday 10:30am
— BCP 1662 —
Our Wednesday congregation meets at 10:30am and worships with a said Anglican Prayer Book Service from the Book of Common Prayer 1662. This service includes an opportunity to sing some classic hymns and the chance to request prayer for healing with the anointing of oil as encouraged by the Apostle James.

Therefore St John’s Tamworth Affirms:

A belief in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; three distinct Persons co-equal in glory and co-eternal in majesty and of one substantial Godhead, such that there are not three gods but one God.

A belief in the Holy Scriptures as divine revelation, inerrantly inspired by God, carrying the full measure of his authority, containing all things necessary to salvation, and to be submitted to in all matters of faith and practice of life.

A belief in the One Saviour of mankind — Jesus Christ — who in His person is both fully God and fully man; of one substance with the Father in regard to his Godhead, and at the same time of one substance with us in regard to his manhood.

A belief in the perfect obedience of Christ, His true and actual suffering, His substitutionary and atoning death on the cross, and His bodily resurrection and ascension as the only means given for our salvation and reconciliation with God.

A belief in faith alone as the only grounds for which the merits of Christ are imputed to us for our justification before God — we are righteous by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

A belief that God’s Holy Spirit is given to all believers at conversion that they might be convicted of their sinful nature and need for Christ as saviour — God’s Spirit dwells within the Christian to cause ongoing repentance, increasing holiness, and the ability to live a life that please God.

A belief in the return of Jesus Christ who will come in glory to judge the living and the dead — with a bodily resurrection from the dead of all people to either eternal damnation or everlasting blessedness.

A belief in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church as those souls that have been redeemed entirely by the work of Christ — as members of Christ’s body they have been called out of slavery into freedom, out of darkness into light, out of error into truth, and out of death into eternal life.

A belief that the visible church exists to worship the Triune God and to lift up the Saviour Jesus Christ before all people —that we might learn to share the gospel with our neighbours, saturate ourselves in the word of God, and faithfully take part in the life of the church, particularly in our celebration of the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion.

A belief in the historic creeds of the Church as accurate representations of the essence of the Christian faith, and in the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Anglican Church as a coherent and concise expression of Anglican doctrine. We also hold to The Jerusalem Declaration as a statement of contemporary orthodox Anglicanism.
